Sound Session Design

Four weeks online · Starts January 21

Sound Session Design

Create sound journeys with intention, musical depth, and a story of their own.

You know your instruments. But knowing what to play, when to bring it in, and how to turn it all into one journey is a different skill.

Sound Session Design teaches you to shape a complete sound journey, from the first tone to the final moment, using musical structure, tension and release, dynamics, repetition and transitions.

Not a fixed template. The understanding behind every session that works, so your journeys sound like you.

Four weeks online · Four live sessions · Replays included

Where You Are Now

You know your instruments. But do you know how to bring them together?

You have your singing bowls, your gong, your handpan, your shaker. You know how to play them. Maybe you have a structure you return to every time.

And still, halfway through a session, you lose the thread.

  • You guess what comes next.
  • You stay in the warm, safe harmonies because you don't know when to break them.
  • You bring in the gong and wonder if it deepened the moment or broke it.
  • You end the session and hope people felt something.

You don't need to choose between intuition and structure. You need to know the musical choices behind the journey you're creating.

Once you hear how sounds relate, how tension and release work, and how one moment leads into the next, you stop guessing. You build, you hold back, you land it. And it sounds like you.

Designing a sound session

The Principle

A sound journey is more than a collection of beautiful sounds.

Every instrument brings something different. A singing bowl sets a tonal centre. Two bowls together can create warmth, or tension. A gong marks a turning point. A shaker changes the texture without adding another melody.

But the instrument is only half the story. What turns separate moments into a journey is how you combine your sounds, and what you decide happens next.

When to build. When to hold back. When to bring in contrast. When to let a sound linger, and when it's time for something to change.

That's what you learn in Sound Session Design. Dynamics, repetition, transitions, harmony, tension and release. How they work together, how small arcs live inside each instrument, and how they carry the big arc of your session.

Stop collecting instruments. Start composing the experience.

What Changes

More instruments don't make a better session. What you do with them does.

Your session actually goes somewhere

One big arc from the first tone to the landing, with smaller arcs inside each instrument. People feel the build-up, and they tell you about it afterwards.

Tension that lands, and a release people feel

No more harmonious from start to finish. You know which combinations create tension, how long to hold it, and how to always bring people home.

No more gaps between instruments

One sound flows into the next. No awkward pause while you reach for the next instrument, no jumps that pull people out of it.

Loud and soft, on purpose

You know when to play barely audible, when to build, and how volume carries the arc forward.

You know when to repeat and when to change

Repetition lets people settle. Change wakes them up. You know which one the moment needs.

Your sound fits the room

The same bowl sounds different in a yoga studio than in a church. You learn to hear how your sound carries, and adjust before anyone notices.

Every instrument earns its place

Tibetan bowls, crystal bowls, gong, handpan, tongue drum, shaker. You know what each one adds, which combinations work, and where each sound belongs. Often the instruments you already own are enough.

What You Leave With

Leave with more than one session. Leave knowing how to design every session after it.

You design your first complete session during the four weeks. But what you take home is knowing how to build a new journey for every moment, every group and every room, in a way that feels like you.

Along the way:

  • You make musical decisions without second-guessing. You know why the gong comes in where it does, and why the bowls drop away before it.
  • You build a journey, not a sequence. A beginning, a build, a peak and a landing, and people feel the difference.
  • You use tension and release on purpose. Not just beautiful harmonies from start to finish.
  • You get more out of the instruments you already own. New combinations, new roles, without buying anything.
  • You design new sessions whenever you want. The framework comes with you, and your sessions keep growing with you.

You work on your session throughout the module and get feedback during the live group sessions.

What Changed

In their own words.

When creating a session feels like the hardest part

BeforeCreating a session was the part I found hardest.
NowClear, easy, and even fun. I have the confidence to create many more.
"The session design framework made creating a session clear, easy and even fun. Everyone I gave sessions to during and after my exam said they loved the build-up and the flow. It isn't until now that I feel my whole trajectory really comes together."
Dairile

When intuition alone doesn't tell you what comes next

BeforeI used to lead purely on intuition.
NowI know which tones sit together, which create tension, and I always bring people home.
"I prepare my sessions differently now. Not just by feeling, but by knowing what works and what to avoid."
L.
"This course felt like a missing piece for me."
"Building an arc and using it. Following arcs within instruments was also a gamechanger for me."

The participant described how learning to build tension and release it changed her approach to soundbaths:

"I used to play harmonic - maybe even boring - soundbaths before. Now I feel a change in my own sessions which truly moves me."

She began structuring all her classes with an arc, using her voice more often, and exploring new ways of combining the instruments she already owned.

"I am more grounded, confident and convinced that my sessions are great :)"

Her overall reflection:

"If you are searching for a course that combines theory and practice – take this one. There are so many gold nuggets inside."

On The Framework Itself

"That's my anchor."

"It gives me peace during a session. That's my anchor."
"I've printed everything out, put it in a folder. When I prepare a session I sit down with it. That's my ritual."
"It felt like having a mentor on the page."

The musician

Eddie

Eddie studied at the conservatory, where his research included music and the brain. After 20 years as a professional musician, he hears what most practitioners miss: why one combination of bowls settles a room and another makes it restless.

He shows you the musical choices behind a journey: tonal relationships, tension, dynamics, repetition and transitions.

The body

Joy

Joy's background is in professional dance, yoga and somatic practice. She's a vocalist and Meinl Sonic Energy Ambassador, and performs as Joy Rae with crystal bowls, voice and handpan.

She brings what happens in the room: how a session lands in a body, when people need more, and when they need you to stop.

Together they've led more than 1000 sessions, always watching what works in a real room.
Not what should work. What actually does.

How It Runs

Four weeks to design a sound journey that's yours.

Four live online sessions

Learn the principles, work on your own session, and get feedback in the group.

Replays included

Rewatch whenever you sit down to work on your session.

A private community

Share your work with practitioners building their own sessions alongside you.

Space to ask questions

In the live sessions, or in between.

Access to our Instrument Somatic Library

What people actually feel with each instrument, collected from our students across all our trainings. When you design a session, you're not guessing what the gong or the crystal bowl will do in a body. You can look it up.

Your own complete sound session

Built on your instruments and your choices, ready for your next session.

You don't need a finished plan. You need your instruments, a willingness to experiment, and enough musical understanding to keep up. You leave with a framework you can come back to every time you design a new journey.

Where This Fits

Musical Intelligence gives you the language. Sound Session Design helps you compose the journey.

Musical Intelligence teaches you the musical language of your instruments: notes, intervals, harmonies, melodies, and how they apply to singing bowls, handpans and tongue drums.

Sound Session Design puts that language to work across a full session: dynamics, repetition, transitions, tension and release, and how one moment grows into the next.

Musical Intelligence is recommended, not required. Already have the musical basics? Go straight to Sound Session Design. Want both? Take the bundle.

If You're Still Wondering

You don't need another fixed sequence to memorise.

Maybe you've done trainings and collected ideas from different teachers. Sound Session Design doesn't throw any of that out. It adds a layer.

"I already have my own way of doing things."

Good. Keep it. This gives you more ways to shape a session, with your own choices still at the centre.

"I'm not a trained musician."

You need enough musical understanding to keep up. If you'd like a stronger foundation first, Musical Intelligence is recommended, but not required.

"I don't want my soundbaths to become rigid or technical."

Structure gives you options. It doesn't dictate every note. You decide what serves the session.

"I already have plenty of instruments."

Good, you don't need more. This is about getting more out of the ones you have.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to complete Musical Intelligence first?

No. Musical Intelligence is recommended, but not required. You should have sufficient musical understanding to engage with the material. If you want to build that understanding alongside your session-design skills, the bundle combines both modules.

Is this suitable for beginners?

The module is intended for sound-healing practitioners who have completed basic training and for more experienced practitioners who want to deepen their session design. It isn't designed as a first introduction to sound-healing instruments.

Will I receive a ready-made soundbath template?

No. You build your own session, with your own instruments.

Do I need to facilitate a soundbath during the module?

The confirmed practical outcome is a complete, personally designed sound session ready to use in your practice. Facilitating a session isn't a required outcome.

Are the live sessions recorded?

Yes. Replays are included, so you can return to the sessions as you work with the material.

Can I ask questions between sessions?

Yes. You can ask questions during the live sessions or between sessions as you work through the material.

What will I have at the end?

A complete sound session you've designed yourself, ready to use in your own practice, along with a framework you can apply when creating future sound journeys.

Understand the music. Design the journey.

You don't need more instruments, a longer template, or someone else's style.

You need to know how your musical choices shape what people feel, and how to bring them together into one journey. That's what you'll build in these four weeks.
